Midwest D-CFAR Affiliate Member Wins Prestigious AFRICURE Developmental Award
Helena Lamptey, a research fellow at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research in Ghana, has been selected to receive one of five AFRICURE Developmental Awards for 2025. AFRICURE awards are for early- and mid-career stage HIV investigators from Africa affiliated with a Center for AIDS Research, and Helena’s selection highlights her exceptional contributions and promising research.
Her winning project focuses on understanding the mechanisms of HIV persistence in unique patient cohorts, aiming to uncover potential therapeutic targets that could lead to a functional cure for HIV.
Helena is an affiliate member of the Midwest D-CFAR and a mentee of Midwest D-CFAR director Elvin Geng, MD, MPH and George Kyei, MBChB, PhD, co-director of our Advanced Technology Core, and her AFRICURES application was supported by Dr. Kyei, Dr. Geng, and other Midwest D-CFAR staff.
